Introduction

Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) is a special program designed with the intention of providing academic institutions, faculty, and students with the latest development tools at a low annual cost. The Computer Science Department at FSU has joined the MSDN Academic Alliance and, as a result, there are a number of resources now available to both students and faculty.

As a member of the Alliance, the CS Department receives the following benefits:

  • Monthly software updates
  • Special offers from MSDN partners
  • Access to the MSDN Academic Alliance Web Site
  • An amended End User License Agreement (EULA) that, among other things, allows:
    • Unlimited licenses for department labs
    • Free downloads/licenses of the software available to all Computer Science majors and grads taking credit courses within the department.

New Software Available in the Majors's Lab and Grad Lab

The following is a list of some of the new software now available in the majors lab and grad lab as part of the Computer Science Department's membership to the MSDN Academic Alliance:

Now Available! Take the Software Home!

Now faculty and students are able to download this software and use it for development at home! Currently the computer science department is working with the ELMS download center to provide a download service available to students 24/7. The CS Department/e-academy hosted site is at:

    To download

Students: must stop by MCH 208 and request to sign a Student Use Agreement. The process will take several days, and you will be sent a username/password to access E-ACADEMY DOWNLOADS.

Faculty: To submit a request for software you must fill out the Faculty Request, the Faculty Use Agreement, and deliver both forms to MCH 208.

Note: Some restrictions, of course, do apply:

You will be bound to the terms of the EULA and the Amendment to Master EULA, so read these carefully. When you are no longer a part of the department, you will no longer be eligible to receive product updates from the program. Any licenses you have in your posession will, however, remain active. If at any time you have violated the EULA, the Computer Science Department must require confirmation of the removal of program software from your personal-use computer.

Students must be a Computer Science major or Graduate Student before you may install and run the software; you must read and agree to the Student Use Agreement.

Faculty must currently be teaching a course in the CS department and must not serve any additional infrastructure functions (e.g. Chair, Associate Chair, admissions, etc.). You must use the software for only "non-commercial purposes": including instructional use, research and/or design, development and testing of projects for class assignment and tests or personal projects. You may not use the Program software for any for-profit software development. Also, faculty must read and agree to the Faculty Use Agreement.
